Dr. Maddy Corbin shares her thoughts at Palenque Norte from Burning Man 2012!

Dr. Michelle Corbin earned her Ph.D. in Sociology and her Graduate Certificate in Women's Studies in 2010 from the University of Maryland. Her dissertation project titled "Spirituality in the Laboratory: Negotiating the Politics of Knowledge in the Psychedelic Sciences" analyzed scientific research on psychedelics and spirituality from the 1930's to the present. Given the traditionally demarcated and historically hierarchical relationship between science and spirituality, she examined how the epistemological, ontological and political implications of this unusual intersection were negotiated in these sciences.
This project brings together Dr. Corbin's interests in spirituality, psychedelic consciousness exploration, science and social justice. As a spiritual practitioner and member of consciousness-oriented communities, she shares a belief in the emancipatory possibilities of spirituality and consciousness transformation. As a feminist scholar committed to liberatory politics she seeks to investigate how we can ensure that our spiritual practices and consciousness transformations can best be accountable to the multiple politics of location which constitute our lives, communities and traditions. Dr. Brian Hewlett gives the 3rd talk on the first day of Palenque Norte 2012 at Burning Man.

This workshop offers a brief history of the conceptualization of human consciousness and intelligence before outlining the process of conscious perception of experience proposed by Qualitative Field Perception Theory (QFPT). QFPT is a contemporary theory by Dr. Brian N. Hewlett (2012) that proposes human consciousness has a default formula for constructing experience that can be explained by the rules of quantum mechanics and in terms of the divine proportions of the golden ratio. The theory argues that each human acts as an observer constructing experience from an infinite field of qualitative material that is either shared or is a set with a fractal dimension. QFPT presents for conscious observers a set-based algorithm that has implications for human agency in manifesting experiences both psychedelic or otherwise, subjective reasoning in Artificial Intelligence (AI), and time space manipulation. As such the workshop concludes with a discussion that focuses on the social and moral significance of introducing such an algorithm into AI and the further implications that may have for human society.
